Welcome to our specialized Seniors & Adapted Chair Yoga Teacher Training Program, led by Anne Archambault. This program is divided into two distinct modules, and is ideal for anyone interested in starting to work with this specialized population. With the aging population on the rise, this training offers an excellent opportunity to specialize in this field. Obtaining the proper certification ensures that you are well-prepared to work with this group and meet professional standards required by insurers.
 
Module One:  All Abilities- Seated Ambulatory

Overview:

This module is designed to equip Yoga Teachers, healthcare professionals, and senior fitness instructors with the tools to offer adaptive chair yoga for individuals with varying levels of mobility. You will learn to tailor yoga practices for seniors, individuals recovering from injuries, and those managing physical challenges or age-related conditions.

Learning Outcomes, after this workshop participants will:Understand the fundamentals of adaptive chair yoga.

  • Identify target populations and recognize the benefits of chair yoga.
  • Learn basic concepts of age-related changes and normal aging.
  • Adapt yoga poses for various abilities through pose analysis and modifications.
  • Use chairs and props to enhance safety and accessibility.
  • Develop class templates for different ability levels.

Content:Introduction to Chair Yoga: Key benefits and target populations.

  • Basic rehabilitation concepts, age-related changes, and normal aging.
  • Core sensations as a foundation for adaptive practices.
  • Safety protocols and effective use of props.
  • Class sequencing and practical teaching techniques.
  • Case studies and real-world applications.


Module Two - Mobility Cognitive Challenges: Seated non ambulatory

Overview:

In this module, we focus on creating engaging and effective yoga sequences for individuals with severe mobility challenges (using wheelchairs/walkers) or neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer’s. You will learn to adapt chair yoga for people with strokes, paralysis, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and other conditions. This module emphasizes understanding and empathy, providing strategies to enhance the quality of life through yoga.

Learning Outcomes, after this workshop participants will:

Gain insights into mobility and neurodegenerative challenges.

 

  • Identify key benefits of chair yoga for the muscles and nervous system.
  • Create safe and accessible sequences for individuals with advanced needs.
  • Develop class templates tailored to mobility and cognitive challenges.
  • Foster engagement and enjoyment in chair yoga classes.

Introduction to mobility and cognitive challenges.

  • Adapting chair yoga for strokes, dementia, paralysis, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Core sensations as a key strategy for engagement.
  • Safety considerations and environment preparation.
  • Teaching techniques for individuals using wheelchairs or unable to stand.
  • Class sequencing and brain health strategies.
  • Practical teaching techniques and case studies.
 

About Anne, M.Ed. , E-RYT-500 - Chair Yoga Specialist:

Anne Archambault is a seasoned Yoga instructor passionate about making yoga accessible to all. First trained in 1984, Anne has since earned her E-RYT 500 certification and holds a Massage Therapy certification. She is a part-time faculty member at Concordia University, teaching Recreation Therapy for over 24 years.

Anne’s journey into Chair Yoga began in clinical settings, working with seniors, individuals recovering from brain injuries, and those facing mobility challenges. She blends her expertise as a therapist, teacher, and yogi to create an inclusive, empowering environment. Anne’s workshops are designed for both Yoga Teachers and healthcare professionals, offering practical knowledge and techniques to bring adaptive yoga to diverse populations.

Pre-requisite: Completion of a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program, or a background in healthcare (e.g., PAB - préposée aux bénéficiaires, RT (Recreation Therapist), OT (Occupational Therapist).

Certification: 25 hours YACEP certification upon completion of Module 1. 50hours YACEP certification upon completion of Module 1 and 2.

Course Breakdown:  

Total hours per module: 25 hours (12.5 hours in-class, 12.5 hours independent study).

Activities include lectures, practical sessions, group discussions, case studies, and teaching practice during an open house.

Dates:

Module 1: Saturday and Sunday, February 1-2, 2024

Module 2: Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30, 2024

Time: 8:15 am –3:30 PM


Cost: $850 for Modules 1 and 2 OR $475 for Module 1 only.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted until January 15, 2024, with a 30% administrative fee plus tax. No refunds after January 16, 2024.
